Koki Kubo wins 500 meters

Japan won their first medal in the championships as Koki Kubo skated to victory in mens 500 meters. Winning time was 36.86. Gold medalist Kubo told that he is really happy and that it was amazing to hear the national anthem.

 

Conditions were challenging and some skaters struggled with the wet ice.

-Conditions were bad and time wasn’t that good but I won the championship, Kubo says.

Silver medal went to Xuefeng Sun from China. It was already the second silver medal for China. Also Russia took their second medal in the championships as Ruslan Zahkrarov skated the third fastest time. Zakharov said that the ice was really warm and hard to skate but he was excited about the atmosphere around the competition. It was the first time Zakharov competed in the junior championships and he was extremely pleased with his bronze medal.

-It was definately my best outdoor race of the season.
